This session explores eco-friendly biobanking innovations and circular economy approaches addressing sustainability beyond financial viability. Amid rising energy costs and the climate crisis, we’ll showcase impact assessments and solutions that reduce environmental footprints, promoting greener, more resilient biobanks for the future of research and public health.

Dr. Carlo Largiadèr

Carlo R. Largiadèr, PhD, is Associate Professor of Pharmacogenetics at the University of Bern and Inselspital and is President of Swiss Biobanking. He serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Center for Laboratory Medicine at Inselspital, and directs Liquid Biobank Bern. 

Erik Steinfelder

Erik Steinfelder is currently the SVP of Commercial Sales and Operations at eMolecules, a company focusing on reducing early drug discovery timelines. Previously Erik had several commercial roles within Thermo Fisher Scientific. Between 2017 and 2020,  Erik was Director-General of BBMRI-ERIC. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry.
