#EBW26 Previews: 11C: Samples ready for multi-omics research
This session explores how biobanks are adapting collection, processing and storage protocols to meet the demands of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics research. Experts will address operational challenges in integrating multi-omics workflows while ensuring IVDR compliance, offering practical insights into preparing high-quality biospecimens for comprehensive, reproducible multi-omics analyses.
Speakers included in this session:
- Niklas Ahlblad – Biobanking a comprehensive longitudinal sample and data collection from healthy blood donors
- Anjum Riaz – Biobanking for a national multi-omics cancer project
- Petr Lapčík – Integrated multiomics classification of triple negative breast cancer
- Abhishek Mohanty – Multiomics and tumor banking: comprehensive platforms integrating cancer diversity, biomarker discovery, and personalized cancer care
- Stefan Rudziński – Multiomics analyses of osteogenically induced adipose-derived stem cells as a tool for biomed research
This session will be chaired by:
Asst. Prof. Roman Hrstka, PhD
Asst. Prof. Hrstka, PhD is a group leader at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute in Brno, Czechia. His research focuses on molecular oncology, cancer progression, and biomarkers in gynecological malignancies. He also coordinates the Czech national biobanking infrastructure BBMRI.cz.
Michael Kiehntopf
Michael Kiehntopf is a physician, biochemist, specialist in laboratory medicine, director of the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics at Jena University Hospital (JUH) and head of the central Integrated Biobank Jena (IBBJ) for the Medical Faculty of JUH.
His research focuses on the establishment and operation of biomaterial banks with an emphasis on organization, quality control, quality assurance particularly in health-integrated biobanking; the development of new analytical methods and their transfer into clinical application; and the search for innovative SEPSIS biomarkers.
He is member and one of the spokespersons of the board of the German Biobank Network (GBN), spokesperson for the Biobanks and Informatics Competence Field of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL), member of the board of directors of the TMF, and member of the external scientific advisory board of the BioBank Dresden (BBD) and the Interdisciplinary Biomaterial and Database Würzburg (ibdw).
